2003 South Top Prospect Showcase
Cummings is an outfielder with a golden glove. At 6 foot 3 and 195 pounds he looks like a Big League player as he walks onto the field. On the mound he threw mid 80s with good life. His breaking ball showed good spin in the high 60s. He throws from a 3/4 slot and drops lower once in a while and sinks his fastball. He had four strikeouts, allowed 1 hit, no walks, in his 3 innings at Waco, He got most of the Ks on the drop down fastball. He projects very well on the mound. Cummings is very much a 2-way prospect at the next level. His 7.4 - 60 speed plays much better and he proved it with a good route, good jump and athleticism on one play in centerfield that made our weekend highlight reel. There is no question, he can track them down. He hit line drives with authority and projects to have easy gap or over the fence power as he continues to grow into that big frame. He is someone to watch! David is a good student.
