2006 National Showcase
Danny Rams is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher/1st baseman from Gulliver Prep HS, residing in Miami, FL. He is a physical and mature bodied player with a broad 6'2" 218 lb. frame. Rams was ranked #6 among PG National Top 100 position players, due in part to a couple of his tools, which both rate on the plus side of the grading scale. In the batters box Rams is an intimidating presence. He takes up a lot of space and has a set-up that says he is looking to inflict damage on the ball. With his plus bat speed and physical strength, Rams has raw power that rates near the top end of any grading scale. He does a nice job keeping his hands inside and has a pretty short swing. His trigger works, allowing him to let the ball travel deep into the hitting zone, seeing each pitch longer. In some ways it seems as though Rams hunts pitches and knows what he wants to swing at. His arm is a plus and his hands show promise at times as a receiver. Rams is not going to be scouted or drafted because of his receiving and catch/throw skills, but having that arm and some presence behind the plate are strong positives. He did block and recover pretty well. In some ways, his skill set at this time in his development is similar to 2006 1st round pick Hank Conger. Rams posted a 7.18 60, laser timed. At this time, he is the top power arm/power bat combo of '07 prep catchers and that combo always draws very significant pro interest.
