2021 Fall Northern California Showcase
Joel Arellano is a 2025 LHP/1B, OF with a 5-9 170 lb. frame from Madera, CA who attends Madera High School. Features a medium build with some room to add. Primary left-handed pitcher. Utilizes a tall and fall delivery with low effort throughout. Repeats it well. Uses a short arm action from a 3/4 slot. Works quickly with good tempo. The fastball sat 70-75 mph with slight arm side run. Clean mechanics allow for it to be thrown a fair amount of strikes early in counts. Paired it with a curveball at 61-66 mph with slurve-type action. Worked the offering in on RH. Has the ability to get whiffs when it landed there. Showed solid actions in the box too. Uses an upright, slightly open stance. Flashed some bat speed with natural loft. Utilizes a pullside approach with power that can play in that direction. Ran an 8.15 60-yard. Performed best defensively in the outfield. Arm strength plays fairly well from the grass. Gathers behind ball well before transitioning smoothly into throws. Getting glove down earlier would allow for more consistent fielding actions. Also showed the ability to play first base. Actions could be further developed but the glove is playable at the spot. Ran an 8.15 60-yard. Very good student, as well.
