Fernando Rios is a 2024 1B/RHP, 3B, OF with a 6-1 200 lb. frame from Whittier, CA who attends California. Recorded a 8.21 second sixty yard dash time. Large frame and thick build with present strength. Primary first baseman, keeps his feet moving and shows quick and twitchy actions with a short arm action. Clean round overall, moves well for his size. Secondary right-handed pitcher that works exclusively from the stretch. Tall and fall delivery. Pauses at the top of leg lift. Limited lower half incorporation at present. Long arm action with ¾ arm slot. Low effort delivery. Pulls frontside occasionally, but delivery is repeated fairly well otherwise. Fastball sat 73-77 mph, touching 80 mph, with slight arm side run. Went right at hitters with it. Around the zone often. Still refining command but competes well with it. Slider sat 66-68 mph. Not extremely sharp but showed some horizonatal break. Flashes tilt when thrown well. Needs to refine consistency of shape. Throw for strikes fairly often. Had ability to get hitters out front. Also flashed changed changeup at 70 mph with some armside run. Used sparingly in game. Right-handed hitter with a spread stance and a deep barrel load, has an arm bar and upper-body dominant swing. Sprayed balls to the opposite field during his round, gets the arms fully extended at contact. Gets overly rotational at times, will improve impact potential as he gets stronger and connects with the ball out front. Great student.
