2007 Mid Atlantic Underclass Showcase
John Beasley is a 2009 RHP/OF with a 6'2'', 165 lb. frame from Virginia Beach, VA who attends Norfolk Academy. John has a lean athletic build that projects well to add strength in the future. He was the top prospect at the showcase due to his performance on the mound, where he really showed no weaknesses. He throws from a low 3/4 arm slot with a loose easy arm action that prouduces a very live fastball. John has very clean mechanics that resemble closely to Pedro Martinez. He gets a good downhill plane on his pitches and his fastball shows very good armside run. For his off-speed pitches John flashes two above average pitches with a tight slider and a solid 11 to 5 curveball. John's velocity projects well and he has a good mound presence while working quick. At the plate John has good raw hitting tools in his bat speed and power potential. He tends to get long and loopy in his swing and needs to work on shortening up and staying inside the baseball. In the outfield John has the tools to be a solid corner outfielder with a good arm action and solid footwork. John is a solid student that should be a highest-level college prospect.
