2006 National Showcase
Cody Hawn is a 2007 left hand hitting outfielder (also plays 3B/C) from South Doyle HS, residing in Knoxville, TN. He has a strong, athletic build on his 6'1" 195 lb. frame. There certainly were times at PG National that Hawn flashed excellent tools. He hits from a square stance and his raw strength clearly shows when he hits. Hawn starts with his hands held high, then drops them down with sort of a hitch type timing mechanism that worked for him. He is an aggressive hitter and swings with intent on hitting the ball hard. More often than not he showed plus bat speed with a swing that was lively and whippy through the zone. Hawn made a lot of solid barrel contact and was particularly strong to the pull side, due to his hips working early in his swing, clearing space for his hands to come through. He does have good raw power that will become more playable as he continues to develop as an all-around hitter. In the outfield the ball really left his hand well, exiting easily. His raw arm strength is on the strong average side and seems to play a bit above that. On one particular play, Hawn ran down a ball in the outfield and made a very nice diving catch. Hawn ran 4.45 home/1st and posted a 7.41 60 time. His overall tool set does fit his listed positions well, profiling in LF, 3B, or C. Look for him to continue to develop the bat at a D1 program and emerge in a few years as a solid draft prospect with corner type power production or even as a catcher with some juice in his bat.
