Matthew Thorsen is a 2023 SS/RHP/2B with a 6-3 190 lb. frame from Ghent, NY who attends Chatham. Recorded a 7.16 second sixty-yard dash time. Strong, physical frame with long levers, broad shoulders and plenty of room to physically mature. Primary middle-infielder; incorporates longer, fluid strides to range laterally to either side, clean funnel out in front and present arm strength across the diamond. Showed ability to adjust on the move fairly well, working downhill through the baseball with softness to his hands and a smooth transfer. Recorded online, accurate throws with carry up to 85 mph across the diamond. Secondary right-handed pitcher; full windup delivery with small side-step rocker, chest high leg lift with slight coil and good lower half movements down the slope. Fastball worked in the low-to-mid 80s for the duration of his outing, topping out at 86 mph from a three-quarters arm slot. Short, compact arm action with heavy downhill plane to his fastball and the ability to command both sides of the plate fairly well. Mixed in well-tunneled slider with true swing-and-miss capability, 10-5 shape to it and plus horizontal tilt to it. Proficient strike thrower with solid two-pitch mix and plenty of velocity upside remaining. Right-handed hitter that hits from a narrow, upright stance with a high hand set, high back elbow and big leg lift trigger. Middle-to-opposite field approach with rotational lower half components, short and linear swing path. Displayed developing bat-to-ball skills with occasional feel for the barrel, produced loud impact when on-time and squared. Young, physical prospect with immense upside on the mound and solid fundamentals throughout, will continue to improve with refinements defensively and at the plate. Showed better on the mound in this look with tons of velocity upside remaining. Excellent Student. Named to the 2021 New England Indoor Top Prospect List.
