Toby Twist is a 2023 LHP/1B with a 6-2 200 lb. frame from Bakersfield, CA who attends Bakersfield Christian. Large, athletic frame with broad shoulders and present physical strength proportioned throughout frame. Ran a 6.99 60-yard dash. Primary left-handed pitcher, hand pump in delivery, deliberate tempo at start of delivery and speeds up prior to release, lands closed with strike foot with a shorter stride coming down the mound; arm speed through the back, works to a high three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 91 mph and reached for more when needed in this outing, mostly true in life through the zone. Short, late bite to the slider up to 77 mph and mixed speeds well, showed a curveball with bigger shape in the low-70s; flashed a changeup at 78 mph to round out arsenal. Stays back on the ball in the outfield, shows one hop accuracy to the intended base, ball comes out well, clean glove skill with arm strength and carry. Left-handed hitter, begins with an upright and even stance; shows fluidity to his swing path through the zone, comfort working to the pull side and middle parts of the field. Longer swing path to point of contact, looks to elevate and shows strength off of the barrel, best carry to pull side and repeats it well. Good student. Verbal commitment to Oregon.
