Shawn Donovan is a 2007 RHP/1B with a 6'1'', 210 lb. frame from Jupiter FL, who attends William T Dwyer HS. He has a big and strong well conditioned build. Donovan's delivery is low effort and easy to repeat and his arm comes through smoothly. His effortless mechanics enable him to throw strikes to spots with all his pitches. Donovan threw a 79-83 mph fastball with nice running action away from left handed hitters. He threw a 68 mph curveball from a standard 3/4's release point and a 71 mph slider from a lower release point to give hitters a different look. He also mixed in a 73 mph change up on occasion. Donovan showed advanced composure on the mound and an advanced idea of how to mix up his pitches and get hitters to swing the bat and get themselves out. He has all the ingredients in place except raw fastball velocity to be a successful pitcher at the next level. We've seen him at 85 mph in the past, so more arm strength is there. Donovan also showed some athletic ability in the way he fielded off the mound and with the way he swung the bat. He is a very good student.
