Derek Bain is a 2024 C/2B/3B with a 5-10 170 lb. frame from Las Vegas, NV who attends Basic. Features a compact build with some strength present. Ran a 7.84 60-yard dash. Primary catcher. Uses a side saddle setup behind the plate. Showcased a consistent transfer into accurate throws. Will throw uphill at times. Recorded a 2.04 pop time. Also worked out on the infield. Showcases a patient approach into the catchpoint. Range profiles best for a corner spot. Accurate arm was shown across the diamond, reaching 79 mph. Left-handed hitter. Utilizes a slightly open stance with a wider base. Shifts weight using a moderate leg kick timing mechanism with a slight hand hitch. Shows quality bat speed on a lofted path. Approach is geared toward the pullside, showing the ability to drive balls that direction. Has feel for the barrel present. Excellent student.
