2018 PG Top Prospect Games at Maryland
Trey Cruz is a 2019 3B/2B, SS, MIF with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Pomona, NY who attends North Rockland High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength to frame, additional room to grow moving forward. Primary shortstop, fields the ball out front and hands play well, takes an extra step through the ball and funnels into a lower arm slot at release, moves well and will continue to refine overall footwork, works through the ball nicely and remained accurate on to first base with carry. Also pitched, side step moving into delivery with a full hand path; long arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 84 mph with sinking life when working down in the zone. Projects with additional lower half, maintained velocity out of the stretch. Drops slot slightly on curveball and shows 12-6 shape up to 66 mph. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open and bent knee stance with a hand set away from his body, has timing components to swing. Shows looseness to hands with a full path through the zone, some barrel tilt at start but creates present bat speed. Loads with intent and creates occasional leverage, works the middle and pull side parts of the field with line drive contact and shows jump when squared and on time. Good student.
