2021 Northeast Academic Showcase
Jason DeCaro is a 2024 RHP/3B, SS, IF with a 6-4 195 lb. frame from East Northport, NY who attends St. Anthony's. Recorded a 7.59 second sixty-yard dash time. Long, lanky frame with tons of long-term projection remaining. Primary right-handed pitcher with a simple, repeatable delivery and tons of upside on the mound. Fastball worked in the upper-70s to low-80s for most of his outing, topping out at 83 mph from a whippy three-quarters arm slot. Creates tons of downhill plane to his fastball, working the bottom half of the zone effectively. Showed two secondary offerings that showed promise throughout his outing, a sharp 11-5 curveball with both horizontal and vertical tilt to its shape and a replicated changeup with fade to it. Will continue to improve command with maturity and should continue to make steady velocity gains. Secondary infielder with good reactions to both sides, a slightly deeper funnel to field and above average arm strength across the diamond. Showed ability to change arm slots when necessary and recorded arm strength up to 85 mph during drills. Right-handed hitter that hits from an upright, open stance with a tight hand set, high back elbow and hover trigger. Incorporates good weight shift into contact, compact hand speed and good feel for the barrel. Long, loose stroke with big-time power potential that will continue to expand as he advances his approach. Tons of projection remaining with immense upside on the mound. Excellent Student. Named to 2021 Perfect Game Northeast Academic Showcase Top Prospect List.
