2006 PG Pitcher/Catcher Indoor-Feb 11-12
Albert Baez is a 2006 RHP with a 6'0'', 168 lb. frame from New York NY, who attends Mount St Michael's Academy. He has an infielder's build and athletic actions. Baez throws with a compact infielder's arm action and has good arm quickness. He does a good job of keeping his delivery simple and repeatable and on line to the plate. Baez has some effort on his release but he's athletic enough to work through it without much handicap. He would occasionally come off the plate early and ride his fastball up and away from right handed hitters. Baez's fastball was 80-81 mph with some running action down in the zone. He looks like he has more velocity in his arm than what he was showing, perhaps a consequence of the time of year. It wouldn't surprise us to hear he throws in the mid 80's during the spring. Baez best secondary pitch was a 70-72 mph change up. He threw a couple of twisty sliders at 72 mph and needs some coaching instructing on throwing a breaking ball. Baez was a raw pitcher overall but has good natural ability and could blossom with some instruction. Keep an eye on him. Baez is also a very good student.
