2006 National Showcase
Colin Buckborough is a 2007 right hand pitcher from Stamford Collegiate, residing in Niagra Falls, ON. He is long and lanky, with a thin build on his 6'5" 170 lb. frame that should fill in quite nicely in a few years. Buckborough was ranked #66 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and when it is all said and done in a year or so, he will move past many of those ranked ahead of him. He pitches from a 3/4 slot with a quick and short arm action. His delivery is a bit different, kind of herky jerky with a cross body stride and high energy that can distract a hitter. There could be cause for concern that his delivery will cause Buckborough some control issues, but at this point he seems to do pretty well with it. His 86-90 mph fastball had good movement on the arm side and at times some sink that is natural for his arm slot. Buckborough also showed a very nice 76-79 mph slider that had plus spin. That pitch looked very comfortable for him to throw and it has a chance to be a plus pitch in the future, one that is a legitimate out pitch as well as one that he can use for strikes. Buckborough still has a long way to go physically, but he already possesses a strong arm. Though most young pitchers with his body type are not very good athletes yet, Buckborough is and he did a nice job of fielding his position quite well. He is a very projectable right hander and depending on his spring season, Buckborough has chance to be a fast riser on draft lists in 2007.
