LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Darryl Leonard is a 2007 right hand hitting outfielder from Palm Beach Gardens HS, residing in Welllington, FL. He has a 5'11" 165 lb. frame that is athletic and wiry strong with some liveliness. Leonard ranked #81 among the 2006 PG National Top 100 position players but is really only scratching the surface of his ability. He set up at the plate with slightly open stance and narrow feet. Leonard's best offensive attribute appeared to be his hands. He showed a very quick bat, willing to let the ball travel and trusting his hands. He has a good trigger and showed the ability to fire those hands quickly. With his short swing and those hands, not to mention hips that work, Leonard just might evolve from the contact-spray hitter that he is now into one with some power as he gets stronger. He showed good range in the outfield and a near average, suitable for either center or left field. His swing is pretty aggressive which gets him out of the box a little late, resulting in his 4.46 home/1st time. He also posted a 6.96 60 yard dash. Look for Leonard to be a late riser in terms of draft status, if not this spring, then after physical development that will take place in college.
