Noah "Sparky" Owen is a 2018 RHP/3B with a 6-3 160 lb. frame from Oceanside, CA who attends Cathedral Catholic HS. Large frame with a lean, athletic build and wiry strength. Projects for additional size with strength. Ran a 7.92 sixty yard dash. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step delivery to high leg kick. Clean actions throughout delivery. Drives to plate with an extended stride creating solid downhill plane. Long, loose three-quarters arm slot at release with good extension through finish. Commands fastball to each edge of the plate with good downward plane and occasional life in the low to mid 80's, topped at 84 mph. Curveball has 11/5 shape with tight spin and sharp depth. Maintains arm speed with curveball offering that induces late sharp bite. Flashed good feel for a changeup as well that had sinking actions down in the zone. Consistently filled the strike zone with all three pitched while effectively changing speeds. Shows the ability to throw off speed pitches in positive and negative counts, induced weak contact and swings and misses. Also worked out defensively from the infield compact footwork while ranging to and surrounding the baseball. Creates some momentum while working through baseball and releases from a closed position. Generated on line carry across the infield topping at 78 mph. Left handed hitter with and open stance. Simple, repeatable line drive swing plane. Lower half launches to contact with rotational actions creating occasional shift. Primarily used a mid-field, line drive approach that created some hard contact to the outfield gaps. Higher ceiling on the mound at this time. Good student as well.
