Benjamin Stechschulte is a 2007 OF/P from Walton HS in Marietta, GA, with a 5'11'', 185 lb. frame and a lean athletic body and good core strength. He ran the 60 in 7.11 and threw 78 mph from the outfield. He had solid carry on his throws and good arm strength. Stechshulte hits from a spread, crouched stance at the plate with a low hand set up. Perfect Game scouts compared his set up to a "Jeff Bagwell" or "Bernie Williams" approach. Stechschulte has very good hand and upper body strength and generates prospect level bat speed. He takes an aggressive, full swing and attacks the ball trying to drive it hard. Stechschulte has some lift in his swing as he's coming up through it from his crouch and can get the ball in the air and show some power. He made solid contact and is a very promising hitter with the tools and skills to be a top hitter at the next level. Stechschulte also pitched some and showed a 81 mph fastball from a tall delivery. His breaking ball was a 65 mph curveball with an early, sharp break and he also threw a 70 mph change up. Stechschulte was very aggressive attack hitters in the strike zone and is a promising secondary pitcher. His future is with the bat, though. He's a nice hitting prospect and a solid follow. Stechschulte is also a very good student.
