2017 PG Top Prospect Games at TCU
Dax Dathe is a 2019 SS/RHP with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Round Rock, TX who attends Stony Point High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and present strength to build, additional room to fill throughout moving forward. Primary shortstop, moves well to the ball and fields the ball out front with soft, smooth hands, athletic actions, short steps moving towards the ball, quick transfer and gets on top of throws, extra step moving into release, throws show carry across and shows nice body control. Also pitched, begins delivery with leg lift just under belt, simple delivery overall with limited moving parts; strides on line and works with a short arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release. Fastball comes out of hand cleanly, topped out at 85 mph with short running life, projects for more velocity with additional lower half involved. Consistent feel for curveball, lands for strikes and proved to be swing-and-miss pitch with 11-5 shape and depth up to 71 mph. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide base and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Utilizes a simple trigger for timing moving into contact, creates some lift to swing path while staying short to the ball. Quick hands to get barrel to inner half fastball, strides on line and hits the ball out front. Able to recognize spin and stay back on the ball, shows looseness to hands and still projects well. Named to PG Top Prospects Games Top Prospect List. Good student.
