Matt Schlesener is a 2019 1B/RHP, 3B with a 6-3 190 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Torrey Pines. Large frame with long limbs and present strength. Primary first baseman with smooth, fundamental feet while centering the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling and worked through exchange fluidly. Created accurate carry across the infield topping at 79 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and simple front side trigger. Direct hand path to contact and created a line drive plane through extension. Showed present bat speed with strength at contact that generated tight backspin off the carry with carry to the gaps when squared. Also pitched, utilized lower half well while working to the plate. Works over a flexed front leg but created solid downward plane to the plate from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed solid life through the zone with some running action to arm side in the upper 70's, topped at 79 miles per hour. Showed good feel for curveball offering that had 11/5 shape with solid depth. Looked to attack hitters with both pitches and flashed developing feel for each edge of the plate. Outstanding student.
