LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Joseph Yermal is a 2007 right hand pitcher from McDonough HS, residing in Bel Air, MD. Yermal has a body that certainly attracts attention. He has a big, broad, long body and a 6'7" 200 lb. plus frame that has a lot of room to fill out. He is more of a projection right hander than one with big time stuff in the present, but he showed well enough to be ranked #54 among PG National Top 85 pitchers. Yermall pitches from an over the top slot and has a long arm action. He did a nice job of staying over the rubber during the early part of his delivery, which is pretty good. His head can leak a bit, but he showed the type of body control for a young, big, still developing pitcher that speaks well to his future. His fastball was up to 90 mph and sat in the 85-89 mph range. As he continues to develop physically, Yermal should be able to get that fastball on a steep downhill plane through the zone, resulting in a lot of ground ball outs. Not only that, with more extension, his long arm and tall body will make his fastball seem much firmer than it's true velocity, simply by the nature of being able to reach further to the plate than a 6'3" pitcher. For some reason Yermal did not show a curveball. His change-up was 73-75 mph and is a usable pitch. For the most part, Yermal is still developing feel on the mound. Give him some time to come together and he will be a solid prospect. That could be this spring, or in three years time... either way, 6'7" righties do not grow on trees so he is going to get plenty of opportunities to develop and find his ceiling.
