Cooper Johnson is a 2016 C/3B with a 6-0 200 lb. frame from Mundelein, IL who attends Carmel Catholic HS. Very solid athletic build, fairly mature physically. Outstanding defensive catcher, has absurd lower half flexibility in setting targets at the bottom of the zone, very quick feet and blocks well, elite level thrower with plus accuracy and arm strength, very consistent low 1.8 pop times on the bag, best defensive catcher in the class. Right handed hitter, high hand start from a wide base, can be late with his front foot at times, long and loose swing, will dip and get under the ball at times, has bat speed and strength at contact, flashes the ability to pull and lift when on top of the ball. Defense ahead of offense at present but has the offensive tools to catch up. Good student, verbal commitment to Mississippi.
