2005 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Brad Cochrane is a 5-10, 175 lb senior catcher from Canada who was recently moved behind the plate from the middle infield. It seems like a very good move that fits Cochrane's tools well. He worked out at both infield and behind the plate. In the infield he moved through the ball well and showed good balance but lacked ideal infield quickness. Behind the plate, Cochrane's arm strength showed much better at a solid 75 mph and his best pop time of 2.02 is very good for a beginning catcher. During games, Cochrane showed good ability blocking balls and handling low pitches, although he's still getting used to raising his glove for pitches up in the zone. Offensively, Cochrane is a solid line drive hitter. He hits with his hands, although he has a bit of a hand hitch that slows his trigger down. He has good balance at the plate and a level line drive swing. Cochrane will go with pitches to all fields and should develop some gap to gap power with more strength. He's a good all around player with baseball skills and looks to be playing his best position now. Cochrane can play at the next level.
