Jorge Gutierrez is a 2016 SS/3B/C with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Sugar Land, TX who attends Kempner HS. Strong athletic build. 7.08 runner, primary shortstop now but projects to third base or catcher in the future, has a nice release in the infield, moves well laterally, balanced actions. Very good catching fundamentals for a secondary catcher, might be his best future position, has good feet and actions, same compact and quick release, needs repetitions but shows lots of promise. Switch hitter, similar approaches from both sides, open stance with an upper body rotational swing, has strength and can drive the ball when squared up, tends to get long from both sides at times, more consistent in his timing and swing from the right side at present. Good student, verbal commitment from Texas A&M.
