Caldwell is a 5-10 junior switch hitting catcher from Florida who also plays shortstop. He has a very life athletic body and good overall quickness. Caldwell showed very good arm strength in catching drills at 78 mph and and excellent top pop time of 1.84. He also threw 78 mph during infield drills. Caldwell showed very nice range at shortstop and his feet worked very well. After watching him in the games we'd say that he has better overall defensive actions at shortstop than catcher but he certainly has the physical ability to play either position at the next level. As a right handed hitter, Caldwell is short and quick to the ball from a wide, balanced stance. He generates good bat speed and shows some pop. It will be interesting to see which position Caldwell develops at in the future but he listed himself as a primary catcher and we all know how rare it is to find a talented, athletic catcher. Caldwell is also a very good student.
