Blake Martz is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from Grissom HS, residing in Huntsville, AL. Martz has a strong and athletic body on a plus 6'2" 190 lb. frame. He was ranked #80 among PG National Top 100 position players. At the plate Martz hits from a square stance and is an intriguing hitting prospect. He has a wristy swing and a line drive swing plane. The ball got off Martz's bat well and he showed some power. Martz has a pull approach but good enough hands that he looks to be capable of hitting to all fields. He is strong and has good bat speed. Behind the plate Martz showed himself to be a good receiver. He was able to stick and hold good fastballs, keeping strikes as strikes and stealing some others. Sometimes he may be a bit aggressive with the way he sticks the ball, but he has strong hands and is a confident, quality receiver. Martz put out good effort when it came to blocking the ball in the dirt and also did a nice job of steering those pitches out in front of himself, making them easy to handle. Martz's arm is accurate with average raw arm strength. He is a solid D1 prospect and will also get some looks from the area scouts this spring.
