2007 World Showcase
Tyler Benzel is a 2007 3B with a 6'1'', 195 lb. frame from Groveland FL, who attends Lake Highland HS. He has a strong, well proportioned build. Benzel had a very good showcase defensively, especially in the games. He has very good arm strength and makes accurate, strong throws. He'll look flat footed on some plays but on others showed very good range to his left. As long as Benzel keeps working on his lateral quickness, he can be a solid third baseman at the next level. Our scouts remarked that Benzel's build and raw defensive tools profiled well at catcher, too. Offensively, Benzel hits from an open, no stride approach with his hips already open at bit. He has unusual swing mechanics but consistently squared up on the balls in games and hit the ball hard. His hand strength is a big plus for him on offense and he has the bat head skills to compensate for his lack of ideal balance during his swing. Everything appears to work, although his approach is unconventional. Benzel's tools play across the board. He's signed to play at Lousiana Lafayette.
