Trenten Martinez is a 2007 right hand hitting middle infielder from Bishop McGuinness HS, residing in Mustang, OK. Martinez has an average, lean and athletic build on his still developing 6'0" 170 lb. frame. At the plate Martinez showed some very nice abilities. He has a quick bat and an aggressive swing. Martinez showed a line drive swing plane and a knack for getting the barrel to the ball. His swing path is sort of slashing in and out of the zone, sort of slicing through contact. He can spray the ball to all fields and the defense has to play him honestly because he is as likely to hit an inside pitch to right field as he is to left. In the field Martinez showed that he has very good hands. He was actually one of the better middle infielders in terms of hands, feet, and feel for the game. He was very quick on the double play turn at the bag, with good footwork and a quick arm action. His feet work smoothly and he worked to and through the ball well. Martinez looked capable of handling both shortstop or second base, though his footspeed may limit him to second base. He ran 4.78 home/1st with a 7.34 60 yard time. It is conceivable that Martinez will gain some speed and explosiveness as he is not finished physically developing. At this stage he is a D1 college player that will have to outperform more tooled players to earn a pro opportunity in the future.
