Thomas Mendoza is a 2005 right handed pitcher from Hialeah, Florida, with a projectable frame at 6'3", 195 lbs. Mendoza has a long and lanky body with a live arm, and his mechanics are slow and smooth. He has the makings of three very quality pitches. His fastball topped out at 94 mph, while he worked at 89-93. He did over throw his fastball at times, but he showed solid command of the pitch. Mendoza has a very good change up with good movement and arm speed at 78-79 mph. He also throws a good, sharp curveball at 70-73 mph. He still needs to work on consistent command of his breaking ball however. Mendoza is an aggressive pitcher who likes to work inside. Mendoza has a live arm with present arm strength and very projectable secondary pitches. He will get a lot of attention from the pro scouts this spring. Thomas is a good student who has signed with Miami and he could go very early in the June draft.
