2003 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Johnson may have been the best pure hitter at the Chapel Hill showcase. He showed good power potential, driving the ball in BP and in the games with a balanced, quick swing. More impressively, Johnson showed the ability to fight off tough pitches and work deep into counts while maintaining his bat speed and aggressive approach. He also shows the same type of balance and polish behind the plate. He has a quick release with average arm strength and was consistently around 1.90 in his pop times. Virtually every one of his throws for three days was right on the bag. When Johnson fills out his nice 6-1, 185 lb frame, he could become one of the top catchers in the country. He's a top 25 college program prospect that might end up getting some serious draft interest. Benji is also an outstanding student.
