Ryan Young is a big, strong 2005 first baseman from Indiana with excellent potential with the bat. He’s listed at 6'0", 240 lbs. but that weight is very well distributed and we’ve seen players claim to be 200 lbs. who were much softer in addition to not being much lighter. Give Young credit for listing an accurate size when we know many aren’t. Ironically, Young hits like a much smaller player right now, with more emphasis on contact and using all fields than on power. Young’s swing is short from a high hand position and he shows an above average ability to center the ball on the bat. He doesn’t hit through the ball right now, though, just settling for solid contact. When he learns to let the bat head go and attack the ball with his natural strength and bat speed, given his strong hitting fundamentals, Young could develop some big time power. Keep an eye on him. He has some outstanding natural hitting ability. Ryan is a good student.
