2005 National Showcase
Riley Cooper is a 2006 outfielder from Seminole, FL with a very athletic body at 6-3, 200 lbs. He's a top national level football player but is said to consider baseball his top sport. Cooper is an incredible raw athlete. He has long legs and a well muscled torso, with a projectable upper half. Cooper can fly and ran the 60 in 6.29. He's the type of runner and athlete where other athletes stop what they are doing to watch him. Cooper's outfield fundamentals were raw, as one might expect, but he showed excellent arm strength at 89 mph during outfield drills that should improve as he learns to throw. Offensively, Cooper has very good bat speed and good extension through contact, a recipe for future power. He has a tension free swing and just needs to see more pitches and get some repetitions to develop his timing and balance as a hitter. We saw him later in the summer after he'd played 20-30 more games and the improvement was tremendous. Cooper is a world class athlete, one of the 2 or 3 best in the 2006 class, and has the kind of body and potential that gets the professional scouts excited in a hurry. Highest level follow.
