Rafael Vera -- Vera is a live bodied junior second baseman from Florida who has excelled at WWBA events in the past. He bears a very strong resemblance physically and tool-wise to ML middle infielder Julio Lugo. Vera looked a bit nervous and tentative during the workouts but really turned it on when the games started. He runs at least MLB average, maybe better. He’s very quick on defense and showed outstanding range to his right. Vera is going to get to a lot of balls that other second baseman are going to give up on early. Offensively, Vera generates a lot more bat speed and power than you’d expect from a 155 lb. 16 year old. He’s consistently hit balls up both alleys while we’ve been watching and the ball really jumps off his bat in a hurry. Vera is a front foot hitter with a slashing style of hitting whose going to make contact almost every time up. This young prospect has the tools to play at a very high level.
