2005 Sunshine West Showcase
Matt Meyer is a 2006 LHP/1B/OF from Ramona HS in Corona, CA, with a 5'11" frame. Meyer had a very good outing at the Sunshine West Showcase. He threw three shutout innings while allowing only two hits and striking out three. Meyer mixed his pitches well and kept hitters off balance. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with solid arm speed, and gets good leverage in his delivery. During his delivery he tucks his knee to his chest, and has a short arm circle on the back side, but he stays controlled in his delivery. Meyer finishes his pitches well with his arm, but could use his lower half better at the end of his delivery. Meyer has a looping 12 to 6 curveball with a big break and good depth. His fastball topped out at 82 mph and projects to throw harder in the next year. Meyer showed plus command during his two innings and worked both sides of the plate. With his command, pitchability, and projection, he should be followed.
