2003 South Underclass Showcase
Drabek is a smaller type player with big ability and good family genetics. He is the son of former Big Leaguer Doug Drabek and shows some early flashes of top High School talent. He is a pitcher and catcher who showed pitchability with his stuff that consisted of an 83 mph fastball, 69 mph curve and a very nice 70-71 mph change-up. He has good life on his fastball which moves in on the hands of right-handers and his curve showed a good hard break at times. His most effective out pitch appeared to be his change-up which is very developed for his age and from a 3/4 arm slot showed no decrease in his arm speed. At the plate, Justin showed an aggressive style, but swung within himself and displayed good hitting ability from both sides of the plate. Left-handed he showed his best bat-speed and right-handed he was able to center the ball best and appear more comfortable. He can catch and throw as a backstop and is not afraid to get dirty and play the game hard. He is the type of player you want on your team. Very interesting follow!
