2004 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Josh Speakman is a left handed pitcher/outfielder from Chesapeake, Virginia, with a good square shouldered build and long arms. He throws from a standard 3/4 release point with a sound delivery and good extension in his arm stroke. Josh will occasionally fall off to the third base side on his release, which affects his command. He shows good arm speed and an 81-82 mph fastball, and a 67 mph curveball. He gets good sinking action on his fastball low in the strike zone, and shows good command of the pitch when he's directional to the plate. Josh's curveball has good spin and some tightness to it. He has the physical build and arm action to add velocity in the future as he gets stronger. Josh also threw from the OF with 83 mph velocity and very little help from his lower half. At the plate, Josh showed pretty good bat speed with a strong pull type approach to the ball, and looks to be an above average position prospect as well. Our opinion is that he's going to continue to improve in all areas and his best years are ahead.
