2004 Underclass National Showcase
Jay Dantzler -- Dantzler is a live bodied and projectable junior outfielder from Georgia who performed as well as any player at the showcase in the games. Dantzler’s 60 time doesn’t do his speed any justice, even factoring in the wet turf which would make him a 6.7 runner. We had him at 4.0 down to first base while beating out a hit and he stole bases with ease. Dantzler is a plus MLB runner for us who has the kind of arm strength in centerfield that could make him a very good all around defender as well. Dantzler hits out of a no load type stance and it looked like in batting practice that the wood might be a bit heavy for his wiry muscles. We quickly forgot about that when Dantzler pulled a triple off a pitcher throwing 90-91 mph. Dantzler had 3 other hits and made good contact every time up. He’s a very good student and definitely a prospect to watch for 2005.
