2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Jace Whitmer is a 2006 C/3B with a 6'2'', 185 lb. frame from Marietta GA, who attends Harrison HS. He has a strong and tall build that projects well. Whitmer showed very good arm strength at 79 mph with a best pop time of 2.06. He received the ball well in games and has good blocking skills. Whitmer's best present tools are with the bat. He has a quiet, spread approach at the plate and very good bat speed with a quick, crisp path to the ball. Whitmer showed his power both in batting practice and in games with several long blasts. He handles the wood very well and has advanced leverage at contact. Pitchers would be well advised not to throw Whitmer fastballs on the inside half of the plate, he'll jump on them with authority. Whitmer is a top level college prospect who should get some pro attention as well. He is a very good student off the field.
