2006 National Showcase
Hunter Ovens is a 2007 right hand hitting outfielder from Cardinal Mooney HS, residing in Bradenton, FL. He has a physical build with broad shoulders on his a 6'2" 220 lb. frame. Ovens just looks the part of a power hitter and physical player. One of the nation's more talented players, he ranked #29 among PG National Top 100 position players. A bruiser with the bat, Ovens hits from a square stance. He has very loose and relaxed hands that fire to the ball with a short, powerful swing. He stays inside the ball well and keeps his bat flat through the hitting zone. Ovens is a line drive hitter with power to get into the gap easily. His mistakes will leave the yard and his home runs are not likely to be the towering variety, rather the line drive missiles that are nearly rising as they leave the yard. He is an aggressive hitter with good bat control, a very good combination. In the outfield all his tools play for right field. Ovens has a very accurate arm with near plus raw arm strength. His angles and jumps are good, making him a prototypical right fielder prospect. This physical athlete ran well too, with a 4.29 home/1st time and a 6.86 laser timed 60. Ovens is likely going to get early first day draft consideration and is a premier D1 prospect, capable of starting as a freshman at most programs.
