2007 Atlantic Coast Top Showcase
Ryan Arrowood is a 2008 RHP/MIF with a 6'2'', 180 lb. frame from Union Mills, NC who attends RS Central HS. He has a solid athletic build with good length and some present strength. Arrowood was one of the best pitching prospects at the showcase. He has a polished and clean delivery that he repeats very well and needs very few adjustments. His arm action is quick and compact and comes thru clean and fast. Arrowood throws from a standart 3/4's release point but will drop down to a lower angle occasionally for deception and movement on his fastball. He threw 86-88 mph on his fastball and it was pretty straight most of the time. His straight change was very good at 71 mph and he used it with confidence. The big key for Arrowood's development will be his curveball. He had good mechanics on the pitch and a clean release with good shape to the pitch, but he just babied it up there. He needs to cut it loose and throw it hard and it will be fine. Arrowood was very efficient with his pitches and worked quickly with focus. All the ingredients are there for him to continue to develop. Arrowood is also a solid overall athlete. He looked good at third base on defense, where his arm strength stands out, and showed some bat speed and power potential at the plate. He is also a very good student.
