Sosa is a very live bodied young catcher from Puerto Rico who showed us some promising physical tools. He ran a 7.11 in the 60 and has lots of quick twitch muscles that come into play behind the plate in his blocking and footwork. Sosa’s workout pop times were in the 2.06-2.09 range but his game times were just as quick. Those throwing times will improve as he gains more arm strength. Sosa’s bat speed was good and he wasn’t overmatched with the wood bats against good pitching. His strong fundamentals and level swing path should enable him to keep improving, too. Sosa also left us with a good impression on his leadership skills and his approach to the game. This is a young catcher whose grades indicate he’s good student and whose ability makes him well worth keeping a close eye on. He is an athlete.
