Amir Cartagena is a 2027 RHP/1B with a 5-11 190 lb. frame from New Bedford, MA who attends Pomfret. Medium, square shouldered frame with present strength to frame and additional room to grow moving forward. Ran an 8.53 60-yard dash. Primary right-handed pitcher, full wind up on the mound with a medium length arm stroke through the back working up to a three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 69 mph, worked around the zone well and maintained velocity throughout, worked ahead in the count with fastball and pitched to contact; mixed a curveball with short depth up to 53 mph when ahead in count, landed for strikes, can continue to maintain arm speed on its release. Young actions around the bag at first base, fields it out front, compact arm action with an upright release, balanced on the turn and shows accuracy on throws. Right-handed hitter, begins with a spread stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a leg lift trigger, occasionally gets to front side early with weight shift. Works on a linear path through the zone, shows some present strength in hands and able to generate jump at the point of contact when squared, handsy swing and gets the barrel out front.
