LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 National Showcase
Drake Britton is a 2007 left hand pitcher from Tomball HS, residing in Magnolia, TX. Britton has a strong, powerful body, with long legs and a broad upper body. His 6'2" 200 lb. frame is well-developed now but can still support more strength and weight gains, particularly his lower half, where the power comes from. Britton did now show as well as he can at PG National but was still good enough to be ranked #14 among PG National Top 85 pitchers and earn an Aflac All-American selection. He pitches from an over the top slot, making a shallow arm circle on the backside of his stroke. Britton has a quick arm and a controlled delivery, with a bit of effort. However, he repeats his delivery pretty well, particularly when he is settled in and not pitching for the guns. His fastball topped at 91 and sat 88-90, though he has been seen by the PG scouting staff up to 93. His fastball is hard down in the zone, with good arm side movement. It is the type of fastball that gets hitters to beat the ball into the ground. Britton's best pitch is his plus curveball. He can do things with is curveball that most young and even older pitchers do not seem to do, such as change speeds and the shape of it. The spin was consistently tight on his curveball, and his velocity ranged from 68-77 mph. He was able to use the breaking ball for outs or to steal strikes. Britton's ability to pitch with the curveball makes his fastball that much more effective. When he is not overthrowing, his pitchability is very good and his stuff can be dominating. Britton is one of, if not the top high school lefty in Texas, which will also make him one of the top prospects for the draft next June.
