2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Jason Hampton is a 2009 3B/P with a 6'4'', 185 lb. frame from Rocklin, CA who attends Rocklin HS. He has a long and lean build on a broad frame. Hampton has good body now and is still quite physically projectable. He has a good level of present day ability but has much bigger things ahead of him. Major D1 programs and local pro scouts should follow him closely over the next year and a half. Hampton is going to develop into a power hitter. His set-up is relaxed and his hands work well with the bat. Presently he is showing some gap power with more in store. Hampton's swing is a bit big with some length but he can make that length.work for him if he develops consistently timing. His power will play to all fields. Defensively he is solid at both infield corners and could also move to the outfield. His hands are good and he has a quiet approach to the ball, with a good arm. Hampton did a nice job of making the plays he should have made. On the mound he has a short arm action that works from an over the top slot on mound. His fastball was 79-84 and projects to gain more velocity. His 72 mph curveball has some depth and 12/6ish action. Though he likely is a position player long term he should be followed on the mound too.
