LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2006 PG Pitcher/Catcher Indoor-Feb 11-12
Buddy Baumann is a 2006 LHP with a 5'10'', 180 lb. frame from Rogersville, MO, who attends Logan-Rogersville HS. He has a very athletic look to him and live actions. Baumann swung the bat well at the showcase and it wouldn't surprise us if he's a good position prospect as well. On the mound, Baumann throws from an extended mid 3/4's release point with a fast paced delivery. Baumann has some effort in his delivery that also adds deception to his delivery. For old timers it's a fair comparison to say he looks like Ron Guidry on the mound. Baumann's fastball was in the 85-88 mph range with good life. He cut his fastball to right handed hitters and got the ball under their hands at will. Baumann's breaking ball was a 71-74 mph curveball that was very sharp at times, with very good depth. Left handed hitters are really going to struggle making solid contact on this pitch. Baumann's change up was also a quality offering at 74 mph with nice arm speed and cutting action similar to his fastball. In fact, Baumann's arm action and release are just begging to add a slider to his pitch selection. Given that his in season fastball velocity is likely in the 89-92 mph range and his other two very good off speed pitches, a nasty slider would really complete the package. Baumann is very good student who has committed to Missouri State. Based on what we saw, he's a national level prospect who the scouts should make sure to take a look at this spring.
