John Henry Styles is a 2014 LHP/OF with a 5-11 185 lb. frame from Houston, TX who attends Episcopal HS. Compact broad shouldered build, good present strength, fairly mature physically. Simple leg raise delivery, bit cross bodied on release, hides the ball well in back, 3/4's release point, some effort at release. Mid 80's fastball, topped out at 88 mph, mostly straight with occasional cutting action he can further develop, fastball gets on hitters quickly, turned over a few fastballs later with good 2-seam action. Good feel for breaking ball, can very shape, consistent spin, have seen work the ladder from low 70's depth to mid 80's cutters in the past. Rare change up that can be developed further. Key will be consistent release point and improved command in the future. Outstanding student, verbal commitment to Stanford.
