2004 World Showcase
Darnell is a 6-2, 215 lb. right handed hitting outfielder/pitcher with well above average physical strength. He hits from a straight up open stance with lots of hand movement in timing the pitch. He is looking to pull the ball hard but showed us the ability to wait back on breaking pitches as well. He’s definitely got some pop in his bat. Darnell moves around pretty well for his size (7.18 60) and showed us one of the stronger throwing arms of the showcase from right field. When he took the mound for an inning, Darnell was 85-87 mph but had very raw pitching mechanics. With a smoother delivery and less effort, he might be a 90 mph thrower in the future. Interesting tools with the arm, bat, and even running ability. Seems to be a great makeup guy and all around player. He is a high level DI college player.
