2005 National Showcase
Jeremy Barfield is a 2006 left handed pitcher from Spring, TX with a very good pitchers body at 6-5, 215 lbs. He's the son of former Big Leaguer Jesse Barfield, although Dad was a right handed throwing outfielder with a completely different build, and the brother of top Padres prospect Josh Barfield. The bloodlines continue very strongly with Jeremy. Jeremy is a high waisted athlete with long arms and legs. He has a full delivery and does not show consistent balance yet through release. His arm action is long and flat and he has very good arm speed with a 3/4's release and some cross body action on release. Barfield's fastball topped out at 87 mph with very good running action. His best secondary pitch was a 70 mph split finger change that had very sharp sinking action at times. He also threw a 74 mph curveball with a sweeping slurve-type of break. Barfield is still on the raw side as a pitcher and is still growing into his body but he has a very, very high ceiling when everything starts coming together. And don't forget those bloodlines! Top level prospect.
