2003 South Underclass Showcase
Ewing is an infielder who we liked a lot at second base and he showed one of the hottest bats in the showcase. At 5 foot 11 he has a strong 190 pound frame that is proportionate and athletic. He appears young in the face and we think he still has growing to do. He ran below Major League average but moved well at the middle infield positions and showed enough range to make all the plays. He showed a good arm and it will presently play at the next level. Defensively he looked very solid getting in a good low position and fielding through the ball. With the bat he showed what could be his best tool. His bat-speed will play right now at the College level with aluminum. He recognized pitches quickly and put the bat on the ball hitting the ball square wherever it was pitched. In one of his better at-bats he hit one of the best pitchers' 88 mph fastballs very hard to left field. His swing is tension free and very projectable. If he adds even more strength and gets his bat-speed into the Major League catergory he could end up being a top hitting prospect.
