Padres 2026 Scout Battles Back at 14u BCS

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- With a 3-0 record up to this point, the Padres 2026 Scout Team knows there’s still plenty of baseball before contending for a BCS National Title.

“We’re trying to make it all the way, so we got a long way to go,” Head Coach Moe Ojeda said Monday.

Despite not picking up their first hit until the bottom of the fourth, their third and final win came in the form of a 5-3 victory over Elev8 14u.

For Elev8, Slade Wayne led the way offensively. After he singled in his first at-bat, he made his way home with help from Raivon Pinder who doubled in his at-bat. Then in the third, Wayne picked up his second hit in just as many at-bats, this time an RBI double to drive in Sullivan Smith, who had led off the inning with a single.

After three straight innings without a hit, Christian Sheffield wasn’t wasting any time in the fourth, sending the first pitch he saw into left field for a base hit.

Following Sheffield advancing to second from a wild pitch, Bryan Ravelo brought him in with a single of his own to bring the score to 2-1.

Ravelo made his way to third following a sacrifice bunt and wild pitch, and what happened next was a turning point in the game.

“He was playing aggressive all game, Bryan’s a heck of a player,” Ojeda said postgame. “When he stole home, I think that’s what changed our momentum. It was risky, I really wanted to go the pitch before, but he took off and did a great job.”

After Elev8 drove in one in the top of the sixth, the Padres faced a deficit with just their final three outs remaining.

Leo Marrero put himself in position as the game-tying run after leading off the inning with a standup double, and after a nine-pitch walk from Sheffield, Ravelo ripped a single to drive in both and take the lead.

After falling behind two runs and fighting their way back for a 3-0 start to the BCS National Championship, the Padres need to keep that mindset the rest of the way.

“The one thing that these guys do is hustle and just keep it up,” Ojeda said postgame. “The little things though, the two-out hits, the RBIs with two strikes, I think that's the biggest thing I want to see.”
