Andrew Elkhill (2023, Cummings, Ga.) showed a lot of promise in his start on Tuesday, not only with his large 6-foot-2, 210-pound frame but his arm speed and stuff on top of that. The fastball got up to 90 mph early on and lived in the upper-80s for all three innings, striking out three and allowing just one run. He works from a higher slot using his length to his advantage and getting to both halves of the plate with some downhill plane. He mixed in a few different breaking balls, with a deeper curveball in the low-70s and a firmer slider that he can flatten out toward the top of the zone or add tilt to when he needs a swing-and-miss. The combination of the two breaking balls paired with the above-average velocity on the fastball should give the coaching staff and fans in Mobile something to be excited about with this big left-hander.
